Information for Site Supervisors - US2020



 

Join this exciting collaborative effort to connect STEM professionals with your middle school students! The Science and Health Education Partnership (SEP) at UCSF, in alliance with the city of San Francisco, the San Francisco Unified School District, Techbridge, and the Salesforce.com Foundation, fosters positive STEM role model relationships that help students understand the practical importance of science, technology, engineering, and math and to visualize how they can contribute to our collective STEM future.


    SF US2020 Provides:

  • STEM professionals from companies in and around San Francisco
  • Quality STEM lessons and materials
  • Experienced coordinators who guide STEM professionals
  • Surveys to assess program effectiveness
  • Digital photographs of your student’s experience
  • Tailored logistical programming to best fit your schedule

Our commitment to you:

All STEM professionals that take part in our activities are required to attend a training, in which, we discuss the lessons, appropriate ways to engage with youth and talk about their careers, appropriate ways to use teachers and school staff, and much more. We also run background checks on each individual committed to volunteering with SFUSD students.

    Middle School STEMfest Sites Provide:

  • A block of 2-3 hours for STEMfest event (ex: math/science core periods)
  • An indoor space large enough to support more than 100 students and 40 adults working in small groups
  • A PA system
  • Teachers and school staff involvement
  • General event security
  • Photo consents for all the STEMfest participants (forms provided by SF US2020
  • Demographic information from students attending STEMfest (forms provided by SF US2020)
  • Distribution and collection of student End of Program Surveys (surveys provided by SF US2020)

    After School STEMstudy Sites Provide:

  • After school staff with strong classroom management skills, an interest in STEM education, who will be present for every STEMstudy lesson
  • Advertisement and excitement to help enlist at least 10 middle school students for each lesson
  • STEMstudy lesson attendance records
  • Demographic information from students attending STEMstudy lessons (forms provided by SF US2020)
  • Parent/guardian consent for photography from students attending STEMstudy lessons (forms provided by SF US2020)
  • Distribution and collection of student End of Program Surveys (surveys provided by SF US2020)
